The Grand Wash Cliffs: A Visual Essay

The Northern Arizona landscape where the Colorado River exits the Grand Canyon has long been passed over by the hordes traveling to ogle the Canyon or carouse on the waters of Lake Mead. A small community exists on top of Grapevine Mesa, overlooking the River as it meanders through the high Mojave Desert and south-westward into Lake Mead. The Grand Wash Cliffs are the ramparts that form the edge of the Colorado Plateau (what the Grand Canyon is carved out of) and area residents and visitors alike are overwhelmed by the scale and beauty of this unknown wonder. This book of photos taken over a 6 year span is primarily a love letter: a collection of images of the Grand Wash Cliffs in all their moods as the formation looms over Grapevine Mesa.
