A lot of the beauty of the Grand Canyon (for artists) is its constantly-changing yet ever-unchanging mood. I took this snapshot almost 30 years ago, and tucked it away to be painted some day because I loved the retreating layers of canyon walls.
Well, in playing with my newest, favorite painting substrate (Arches oil paper), I decided to see how it would handle the challenge of catching the Canyon's layers and the River's liquid mud. It handled it just fine and allowed my brush to play in paint until the image became a song, an ode to the Canyon and River.
It's technically a sketch and is priced accordingly, though if someone doesn't purchase it soon, I'll probably keep it (which I rarely do, even when I love an image), as I like this one so much.
